On 8/18/2025, our President, Jane Netherton, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City of Long Beach, marking a milestone moment in the preservation of the RMS Queen Mary.
This agreement formalizes the Queen Mary Heritage Foundation as the City’s nonprofit partner for restoration and preservation of the Queen Mary. It is a recognition of our role in raising awareness, securing donations, and channeling support toward the long-term care of this historic landmark.
What the MOU Means
The MOU creates a clear, collaborative framework between QMHF and the City:
Fundraising Partnership – The Foundation is recognized as the nonprofit entity that solicits and receives donations, grants, and support for Queen Mary preservation.
Accountability – All donations we receive are transferred directly to the City of Long Beach, ensuring transparency and oversight.
Project Selection – Funds are applied exclusively to City-approved restoration projects, chosen from a project list developed jointly with the City and ship management.
Shared Commitment – The agreement ensures that preservation is carried out with both civic responsibility and nonprofit support, safeguarding the Queen Mary’s legacy for generations to come.
Looking Ahead
With this agreement in place, the Foundation is excited to move forward on fundraising efforts, public outreach, and collaborative projects with the City of Long Beach. Together, we are committed to ensuring that the Queen Mary remains a source of pride, education, and inspiration for future generations.
